Who we are

Chronolyze ("the app") is a mechanical-watch timegrapher for iPhone, developed by Kamil Hakan Kutluay ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app handles and why. Questions? Email hkutluay@hotmail.com.

Information the app handles

Microphone audio (processed on-device only)

To measure a watch, the app listens to the movement through your iPhone's microphone. This audio is analyzed in real time on your device to detect ticks and compute rate, beat error, and amplitude. The audio is never recorded, saved, or transmitted off the device. The microphone is only accessed while a measurement is running.

Motion & magnetometer (processed on-device only)

The optional Magnetization Check reads the device magnetometer to detect a magnetized movement. These readings are used live on-device and are not stored or transmitted.

Data you create (stored on your device)

Watches, measurement sessions, positional-test runs, and settings you save are stored locally on your device (via Apple's on-device SwiftData store). We do not have accounts, and this content is not uploaded to us. If you use iCloud device backups, Apple may include app data in your own encrypted backup under Apple's terms.

Usage analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand, in aggregate, how the app is used so we can improve it. This collects:

• Anonymous product events — e.g. that a measurement started, a diagnostic completed, or which screen was viewed — with non-identifying parameters (such as a beat rate or a result category).
• Basic device and app information — device model, operating-system version, app version, language/region, and a coarse location derived from IP address.
• A Firebase-generated app-instance identifier used to count distinct installs and sessions.

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, precise location, or any audio. The app does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), shows no ads, and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites (so no App Tracking Transparency prompt is shown).

How we use this information

• To make the app work — real-time audio and sensor analysis on your device.
• To store your watches and measurement history for you, on your device.
• To understand aggregate feature usage and reliability so we can prioritize improvements.

Sharing

We do not sell your data and do not share it with third parties for their own purposes. Aggregate analytics data is processed by Google as our service provider through Firebase; see Firebase Privacy & Security and the Google Privacy Policy. We may disclose information if required by law.

Data retention

Data you create lives on your device until you delete it (delete a watch, session, or the app). Analytics data is retained by Google/Firebase according to our project's retention settings and Google's policies.

Your choices

• You control microphone access in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone › Chronolyze. Denying it disables live measurement but the rest of the app still works.
• Deleting the app removes all locally stored data and stops all analytics collection from your device.

Children

Chronolyze is a hobbyist tool not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

Because measurement audio and your saved data stay on your device, they are protected by iOS's app sandbox and device encryption. Analytics is transmitted to Google over encrypted connections.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
